Timex Men’s Expedition Scout 40mm Watch

Nice watch but first impression is the watch is very cheap. Have no idea how long it will last. The face is very good, easy to read and it lights up well by pushing the crown. The strap is very thin but plenty long enough for my wrist. It is comfortable.
Compared to other Timex watches I have seen it is too pricey.

This is a second revue. I bought this watch on March 18. I wear it more than other watches I own. I think by now I can provide a better assessment of it. The day I received the watch I set the time based on my internet clock. Four months later the watch has kept perfect time! I don’t know how rugged it is but I have banged it a few times and it is not scratched. The band is holding up very well but in my case it is a bit warm on humid days.
It’s light weight and almost unnoticeable on my wrist. The face of the watch lights up very well when the crown is pushed.
So I we’ll say if you want a good inconspicuous timepiece this one is great.

This watch has come in handy more times than I can count. At night, I can look at the time two ways, with the built in light or if the hour and minute hand are lit up. It’s rugged, and has stood the test of time for the months that I’ve had it. Barely any chipping, and I put it through it’s paces. The band has held together well, also. I like the color a lot, and despite being blue it matches pretty much everything I would want. It’s nice to have the date as well, I can simply look over if necessary and know what day it is.

The mechanism is quiet as well. You won’t be kept up by the ticking if that is something that bothers you. I would buy this again if necessary.

The Quality was exactly the standard that timex set for the most affordable, most durable, most useful, most attractive watches in the industry. I’ve owned this one since 2022.
I have to say it’s all of the above WITH ONE EXCEPTION: The Indiglo never worked from the moment I took it out of the box. I didn’t think anything of it. I thought it was another diluted standard brought on by the corporate enshitification so pominent in the world today. I WAS WRONG!

For under 35$, who cares?

It’s 2025 and I’m buying another one. I put this thing through hell.

I work on Industrial Refrigeration and Mechanical Infrastructure. I’m rough on everything I own and my hands and arms are exposed to 130 degree F Condesner relief temps regularly, 170 degree F Asphalt Equipment Pads (on which I stand for hours in the direct sunlight) in 115 degree F Ambient air temps all while keeping track of timing of sequences of operations, using My Timex as my number-one tool for keeping track of that kinda stuff. Diagnosis would not happen without it.

Accuracy: Hmm. a little behind the iphone weekly or monthly; loses about 5 minutes a month? maybe less. Either way, when I was trying to set it to the current time the other day, I pulled the crown right out of the watch to try and set the time. I put it back in and committed to purchasing another one. The crown is still in there, the watch still is keeping time (more slowly) and I just can’t update the time it has lost. So in a month or so from now, it will be too far behind the actual time to be useful for me.

Very well worth the cost!

UPDATE: two months after purchasing the new watch, the indiglo stopped working when I needed in my sleep last night. I have contacted timex. I’ll update this review once I get a robo-response from them.

Love this watch. Reasonable size, not too heavy (for a man), easy to read, somewhat simple utilitarian stylish and has a lighted dial with a push of the watch stem. Getting the time easily in dim light is a real bonus, without dragging out your cell phone. Timex watches are tried and true. One thing I don’t like – it seems impossible to get a similar watch with a durable hardened glass crystal vs a hard plastic as this watch – they scratch up in time with someone engaged in heavy working. But to get this feature, watches are usually divers style, heavy, complex to read, large and very expensive. So with this watch, its a super value and I am quite happy.

I got this watch for the summertime when I’d be places like a cabin/lake or pool with the kids, in or around water. (A lot of watches either aren’t waterproof or only mildly water resistant.) This watch has performed great. It’s also very comfortable, and looks good as well.

Only negative is that the strap loops that hold the strap in place when wearing it are fixed and cannot be moved, which means that depending on how big your wrist is, you may have too much excess strap with no way to keep it in place. My wrist is about 7.5″ inches, and use the 5th hole, so I have just a bit extra I can tuck into the loop. Any smaller wrist and it’d likely be too much extra strap. For any larger wrist, this shouldn’t be an issue.

Pretty solid watch for the price I paid, but unfortunately I had the Indiglo fail on me after a 3-foot drop. Amazon support came through for me and set another out, and it ended up working great after that. It’s only been a week so time will tell how long this watch lasts me.

Some things to note, this watch uses a 20mm lug size, and can accept slip-through NATO bands, as mine came with one in navy green. Seems to be a thicker ballistic nylon, but I don’t find it very comfortable; I ended up replacing this with a Barton seatbelt strap, which is also slipthrough. I find seatbelt nylon to be far comfier as I use this as a constant timepiece. It also uses a more powerful CR2016 3V lithium battery, compared to some of the other watches I’ve used. Keep this in mind when you need to replace it. The movement of the watch can still be powered on an old battery, but the Indiglo may not work.

Now onto the actual bits I like about this watch, I like the overall look of it, and love the colour of the backlight. It’s a pretty vibrant blue-green, and the watch hands can also glow in the dark if charged with UVA or UVB light. I’m not sure why, but the Indiglo doesn’t charge the phosphor on the hands. I actually need a fluorescent light or the sun to do this for me.

Having 24-hour markings on this watch is also quite useful since I write things down with 24-hour time. Saves me from having to add hours onto 12-hour time. The cream-coloured dial helps with contrast as well, I have no issues reading time from this. That being said, it’s very hard to read the date when I’m in the dark. The Indiglo does not illuminate the date dial at all, and you have to really squint to read it. Oh, this watch is also incredibly loud. If you dislike the sound of the movement of watches I do not recommend getting this watch. This could be a dealbreaker for those who hate that sound. I, personally don’t mind it at all, I quite like it and I have no issues tuning it out.

If you can find this for under 50 CAD, I would grab it if you want a watch with Indiglo and water resistance, but stay away if you’re rough with your timepieces or don’t like ticking noises.
