I’m an electrician by trade, and a wristwatch is a necessity. Increasingly, job sites have a no smart phone policy, and when I have to decide whether I have time to start a new job or if I should start it after lunch, it wouldn’t do to have the foreman catch me looking at my phone while I’m on the clock when a discrete glance at my wrist will keep me looking professional.

Generally, I prefer analog watches, like the MRW200H, but when I have to work outside in the freezing cold, there is no better choice than the classic F-91W. I want a thin, small watch I can wear under all the layers I need to wear to keep warm. At a glance, this watch tells me everything I need to know; the time, day of week, and day. It’s easy to set to 24 hour mode with the press of a button. Being all plastic in design, including the buckle, it’s safe for me to wear this watch around live circuits. If it gets smashed on the job, it’s cheap and easy to replace. If it gets caught on something, the band will break before my wrist.

Being a Casio, this watch has proven to be accurate, rugged, and reliable. When it comes to cheap digital watches, why buy something that’s obviously cheap when you can wear this timeless classic? Perfect for any working class person, even the idle rich consider this a “Trendy” watch to add to their collection. Not that you should buy it to be trendy, but rather because it represents timekeeping perfection for the needs of the working class majority at its best.

I love this watch’s minimalist sensibilities. At a glance, it tells me everything I need to know. It incorporates a decent stopwatch, with a resolution down to 1/100th of a second, which is much more than I’ll ever need. It has an alarm and an hourly chime, which I’m sure some people will like; I use the alarm as a backup in case my regular alarm clock fails to get me up in the morning, and the hourly chime keeps me on schedule when my watch is buried under layers of warm winter clothing. It’s easy to synchronize this watch, but given that it’s a Casio, it’s not very often that I’ve had to re-synchronize it, as it’s been incredibly accurate.

There is a light, but it’s a side-lit LED. Most digital watches have an electroluminescent display, but this comes at the expense of the thickness of the watch. The tiny green LED provides perfectly adequate illumination for the hours, and barely adequate illumination for the minutes, but it’s doubtful I’ll be able to time any marathons in the dark of a new moon.

On my average wrists, I have four holes left in the band and can easily find a comfortable size; however, those with large wrists might think this band looks a bit too thin. It’s easy to replace, and instead of getting an ugly cheap digital watch, I think it’s smarter to put this timeless classic on a bigger band.

Overall, this is a perfect digital watch for any tradesperson, anyone who does actual work for a living, or even for those who “WORK” is a four letter word and they simply want to look sensible. It’s the timeless classic for everyone, and if you haven’t bought one for yourself by now, don’t be surprised if someone questions your intelligence.
