NAKED Whey Chocolate Protein Powder – Only 3 Ingredients – Grass Fed Whey Protein Powder, Organic Chocolate and Organic Coconut Sugar, No GMO, No Soy, and Gluten Free – 24 Servings

I wanted to address some of the issues that were raised in other reviews.

The weight of the total product + packaging I received was 5.9lbs. It’s safe to assume that the product measurement is accurate. The container was indeed 2/3 full, but it’s pretty clear that the product settles in the container a fair bit as it is very finely grained, which it has to be because it has no emulsifiers or other additives to help it mix.

The scoop provided is smaller than all other whey protein brands I have tried, so their recommended serving size is 2 scoops (38g total, 25g protein). Each non-heaping scoop of product measures approximately 16g on my kitchen scale, so you need a slight heap to reach 38g total. No problem there.

Mixing with water in a shaker bottle is just fine. Add the water first so you don’t get product stuck to the bottom of your bottle. It mixes well and isn’t gritty or sludgy.

Taste is…like eating a light mixture of cocoa powder or bakers’ chocolate; kind of bitter. It’s fine and I would way rather drink this than something that is full of sickly-sweet artificial sweeteners. Frankly, I just chug my protein shakes anyways. If I’m using this as a full meal replacement, I add 2 scoops to 1 cup to milk + 2 Tbl of peanut butter and mix it in the Magic Bullet and it takes like a sad chocolate peanut butter milkshake. Who cares, gains.

Perfect. Tastes simple. Great to mix with juice or really anything! Good for a person who can only eat whole foods and avoids allergens like myself.

TLDR: While this is clean and mild, it’s hard to make a case for Naked Whey at this price point. Other brands like optimum, though they have more “filler” ingredients, are still very effective at a cheaper price.
Pros:
1. I like that it has no stevia / artificial sweetener. That stuff makes protein powders way too sweet for me. This has coconut sugar which is very mild in shakes.
2. Clean ingredients – it’s not caused any bloating
3. Vanilla has a pleasantly mild taste. I’m yet to try the other flavors.
Cons:
1. I take my protein twice a day. Once in a breakfast smoothie that’s blended and once at the gym in a shaker with water. This stuff does not mix well with water. It just balled up in my shaker and was a pain to get out. I found that having the water slightly warm helps with making it more soluble but it doesn’t taste as great.
2. It is expensive. I get that it has clean ingredients, but brands like Optimum Whey are cheaper at Costco ($89.99 CAD where I live) and though their ingredients aren’t just pure whey and organic flavouring, I’ll probably be ok with that to save $45 a tub. Just to put things in perspective – brands like optimum use Soy Lecithin (which is a GMO) as emulsifiers to ensure better mixability. Naked Whey whey calls this out in their marketing. If you were to dive a bit deeper into this, you need 5000mg of soy lecithin to have any adverse effects. The amount in a single serving of optimum whey is around 90mg. So you’d essentially need over 50 scoops of optimum to have issues. I doubt anyone is consuming that much protein.

This is 5th time ordering it. Love it, it has only required ingredients, easy on stomach, blends smoothly in smoothies. My go to. Absolutely love the taste. Not overly sweet at all.
