My kids have a habit of losing their pencils at an alarming rate. I like to restock them with mechanical pencils that are affordable and write smoothly. I’ve been very happy with this value pack of BIC pencils. It comes in an assortment of colors so that each kid can have their own colour. I buy a few packs at a time so that my kids can take as needed.

After using traditional pencils for years, I got fed up with the constant sharpening then having the lead break or come out while sharpening. I decided to give these a try. I gotta say, I like ’em! The colours are fun and have a slight shimmer, not really a sparkle, imo. I’d say the only negative so far is the amount of each colour. I’m not sure if it’s packaged randomly or if they have a specified number for each colour, but I have a boy who LOVES orange and a girl who loves pink, and I got 3 orange and 4 pink. No one likes green but there’s 6 of those! Ah well, I guess those will be household pencils. It would be nice to see even numbers of each colour…well, as close to even as you can get with an even number of pencils and uneven number of colours. Maybe 25 pencils, with 5 of each would be better?! Idk, still 5 stars, in my opinion.
I also picked up 984 leads on here for $21 (whhaaaa?!), so we are set for a good decade or so lol!

As a teacher, I go through a lot of pencils during the day—whether I’m tracking student progress, jotting notes on the fly, or marking assignments. These BIC Extra-Sparkle mechanical pencils have become one of my go-to supplies.
They write really smoothly, and the 0.7 mm lead doesn’t break easily, even when I’m scribbling quickly between classes. The erasers work surprisingly well and don’t leave that annoying smudge some pencils do. I also like that they’re refillable, so I’m not constantly tossing them in the trash like other disposable ones.
The sparkly barrels are fun and easy to spot on a busy desk, and the 24-pack gives me more than enough to keep at school, at home, and in my teacher bag. I’ve even handed a few out to students who forgot theirs, and they always ask if they can keep them!
Overall, they’re affordable, dependable, and practical—exactly what a teacher needs in a good pencil.
